If you’re the owner of an external Western Digital hard drive and you’re also running Windows 8.1, you are in luck, as the manufacturer of your HDD has recently launched a dedicated Metro app.

Specifically created to let you access media files with ease, the so-called WD app displays information straight on the Start screen and helps you instantly discover your media on external drives.

“With just one click of our new WD app, all your content is instantly displayed and organized so you can easily browse your photos, watch your videos, play your music and share it all with friends and family. It’s just one more way WD brings your media to your fingertips,” the app description notes.

A recent update brought quite a lot of improvements, including better Windows 8.1 support and enhanced search integration, support for snap mode and indexing and discovery options.

Overall, this is clearly a helpful app for many users who bought external hard drives, so download WD for Windows 8.1 to see what it brings to you.
