You know, the really complicated stuff with cult horror movies of the '70s is what happenes next: an enormous amount of second-hand sequels, prequels, rip-offs and remakes that build up a huge labyrinth of bad acting, idiotic ideas and C series special effects. Just think about the 3 sequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (that came just to prove that the new one can be much worse that the previous one), consider the 6 sequels to the Freddy Kreuger nightmare-ish story and the 7 Halloweens that followed the original one.
Now, (sad) fact is that the first sequel, even if directed by the same human being responsible for the fist movie is doomed to at most obscurity, most generally oblivion and bad press. This has also happened to horror gender icon Wes Craven back in 1985 when he came up with a sequel to his The Hills Have Eyes. Even the title was bad: The Hills Have Eyes: Part 2. Now as the 2005 remake was quite good and enjoyable Craven came up with the bizarre idea of another „Hills… „ movie: a sequel to Alexandre Aja's "The Hills Have Eyes" remake. At least that's what he told fangoria.com.
Craven said: "We want to continue the story of the miners. This time, a group of National Guard screw-ups come face to face with the mutants on their last day of training in the desert. We will take the audience underground [into the mines] as well. The studio, Fox Searchlight, wants the sequel out a year to the day after the last one, so we have to deliver our script in a matter of weeks".
Well, as you can see it's not a remake of the sequel from 1985, so at least we won't get to see dogs having flashbacks from other „Hills…" movies. There might be a problem, though. Alexandre Aja declined the project, so let's just pray British helmer Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch, Wilderness) will take the offer.
