Wentworth Miller Talks ‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’

After wrapping up his work on the incredibly successful ‘Prison Break’ television series, charming actor Wentworth Miller will be seen next in a role that has gotten many intrigued: as Chris Redfield in “Resident Evil: Afterlife.”

Wentworth has said before of how much preparation he put into making the character more believable, given how he was aware of being a newcomer into a franchise that counts millions of fans worldwide.

Consequently, the pressure was huge – but also was the reward at the end, when he and the entire staff working on the film got to see how it turned out, he says in an interview with Ain’t It Cool News’ Capone.

The interview was taken earlier this year, in July, at Comic Con, but it’s just now that Capone got clearance to post it, since “RE 4” has just premiered in many theaters around the world.

In it, Wentworth says he wanted to give the film his best, thus training intensively for the part, while also discussing with his co-stars about how they could make their characters more real, in a context in which they would be extremely busy slaying zombies.

Not much room left for character development, the actor agrees – but he and Ali Larter still managed to work on the brother-sister relationship they have onscreen.

“I went and rented all of the movies, because I hadn’t seen a single one of them, and it was clear to me that they were investing more heavily in every installment of the franchise – more time, more money, more imagination, more effect, more people involved, better technology,” Miller says of how he prepared for the part.

“It was getting better and better as opposed to a lot of franchises where they hit you hard the first time, figure they’ve got the audience hooked, and then kind of slack off on 2, 3, and 4. It’s the law of diminishing returns,” he says.

“So I thought the 4th one was going to be in 3D and I had already heard about we were using some of the same technology that James Cameron used for Avatar,” Miller adds.

The pressure he put himself under was, therefore, huge but also very rewarding in the final run.

“I’m working with total professionals. Second of all, Paul is on set, Milla is on set. If you want to understand the Resident Evil franchise, those are the two people. The bedrock is walking around next to me. They are there for questions or concerns. Paul created the car and Milla’s driving it, while the rest of us get to ride shotgun. That’s a thrill,” the actor says.
