A 25-year-old woman from Llantwit Major, Wales, gave birth to a healthy baby boy although she didn't even know she was pregnant.

Gaynor Rzepka, a supermarket worker, gave birth to Olly-James on February 16 in her parents’ bathroom. The arrival of the baby was a complete surprise for the entire family, as the woman says she wasn't aware of her pregnancy.

That day, Gaynor came home from work after a long and busy day at Filco supermarket in Cowbridge. She says she felt unwell during the day, but didn't suspect what the cause might have been. She went to rest and woke up at about 1am in pain.

“I was having a really sharp pain in the side of my stomach all day and I didn’t know what it was,” she said, as reported by the Mirror.

The woman says she didn't experience any pregnancy symptoms during the last nine months, and she even ran a half marathon during that period. The only sign that she may have been pregnant was a sudden fondness for Mars bars. That's why, the baby's birth was a real shock for her.

“I just pushed and he arrived. I caught him before he went into the toilet,” said the new mother about the unexpected birth. “The sense of responsibility and knowing my life would never be the same again scares me much more than Olly-James coming in the night,” she added.

Gaynor and baby Olly-James were taken to The Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, where they have been checked over. The doctors allowed them to return home the next day because they were both in good condition.

They believe the new mother didn't feel the baby's movements because she was active throughout the entire pregnancy.

The woman's partner Paul, a 29-year-old bar manager, was also unaware of the fact that he was going to become a dad. After giving birth, Gaynor asked her mother to call Paul and break the news. The man took a job in Blackpool three months ago, but he is now planning to move back to South Wales to be with his partner and his newborn son.

Gaynor's colleagues congratulated her after learning the news and customers came at Filco supermarket to leave presents for the baby and the new mum, like blankets, teddy bears or flowers.

Although it may seem strange, there really are women who are truly unaware of being pregnant until the time of delivery. It's true that it is very hard not to notice that one is pregnant, but nevertheless, it can happen.
