Wellograph sells for the same price as the Apple Watch

There are plenty of activity trackers and smartwatches out there, but most of them don’t seem suited to be worn during a fancy night at a black tie event. Far from it, actually.

Sure, more and more smartwatch builders have noticed people tend to stay away from wearables due to aesthetic considerations, so they have made a point of putting more effort into design.

Not so long ago we detailed the Withings Activité for you, which is a Swiss-made watch on the outside, but packing underneath a slew of sensors for activity tracking.

What sets the Activité apart from the crowd is the aesthetics, as the wearable looks more like a stylish analog watch than anything else.

Wellograph opens up the wellness watch category

The same can be said of the new intelligent timepiece we’re going to talk about. Wellograph is actually the company that announced a wearable with a sapphire display well before Apple rolled out its Watch product.

Wellograph is calling its device a “premium wellness watch,” and like the Activité, the fitness tracker looks much more like a classical timepiece.

But unlike the Activité, it comes with a rectangular design that might seem close to the Samsung Gear Live or LG G Watch.

But Wellograph features a metal construction that for some reason appears sleeker than the above-mentioned competing smartphones. The watch’s face is covered with sapphire, which the producing company calls “luxe material.”

The fitness tracker combines different sensors and technology that will help monitor overall activity levels and keep tabs on the wearer’s heart rate.

These functionalities can be encountered with other products, but the Wellograph is the first to provide summary modes that give users an overview of data.

Wellograph is currently compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone, but it can also function independently by bottling up inside the data it picked up for months. The tracker comes equipped with a seven-day battery life.

The wearable can discern between when you’re resting and when you’re working out, something it achieves via the embedded heart sensor. Since it is always on, it can be used to continuously display pulse readings during workout.

However, the Wellograph doesn't bundle smartwatch-specific functions like being able to relay notifications from your smartphone.

The Wellograph doesn't come cheap

Now moving on to pricing, the Wellograph is on par with smartwatches such as the Apple Watch and Samsung Gear S with 3G that can be used as an independent device. That means you can pick up the wellness watch for a hefty $349 / €281.

But fancy fitness trackers can go beyond this threshold. The Withings Activité can be yours for $450 / €280.
