This past Monday, workers in Nevada began work on a brand new solar tree installation that is expected to power the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign starting early 2014.

Clark County officials, together with representatives of the Clean Energy Project and the Nevada Energy and Bombard Renewable Energy, say that, all things considered, having the sing powered by sun energy will not yield any major benefits as far as curbing harmful emissions is concerned.

However, the project will prove that Las Vegas is committed to improving on its ecological footprint by switching from burning dirty fuels for energy to being powered by renewables.

Given the fact that the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign attracts quite a lot of tourists on a yearly basis, and most can't help but snap one or two pictures of it, some might say that installing a solar tree in its proximity is by no means a very good idea.

However, Clark Country officials reassure that the green installation will not in any way obstruct the sign, and that those who want to take pictures of it will be able to do so unhindered, Review Journal reports.

The sign sits at the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard, and has been around for well over half a century. It is the creation of Betty Willis, and it was installed back in 1959.
