Welcome to America Rubbish Becks!

Although not a part of the game, David feels for his team.

Let me just start this by saying that I'm not a sports editor, nor do I pretend to be one. I am, however, interested in everything that deals even remotely with entertainment and, you simply have to admit it, David Beckham is like halfway between the world of sports and that of showbiz. Well, as far as I'm concerned, he's a celebrity first and foremost but that's just me, what do I know? As I've said, I know jack about sports...

Anyway, it's pretty amazing to see how Bechkam's coming to America has took on a sour note so soon. If I remember correctly (and of course I do because even I was all caught up in the arrival of what has got to be Britain's most famous couple), not long ago, the entire media was so thrilled about Posh & Becks' move to LA that you could have sworn it was like the second Coming. On one hand, we had the press and the Internet predicting the revival of soccer in the US, the conquering of America by the two stars, the dawn of a new era, in which the ever-stylish David and Victoria would teach others how to talk, dress and behave in public.

On the other hand, we had the two stars themselves: Posh kept talking about how she would totally change the face of US fashion for good, how people will get to see that she's just like the rest of us (right!) and finally begin to love her for her innate sweetness; and David couldn't be stopped from talking about how he will single-handedly make soccer a national sports. All in all, everybody was excited and happy; but it turns out that the hype was maybe too big for the occasion at hand.

Now, I'm not saying that David is not a great and professional athlete (first, because I have no idea about his skills on the field and, secondly, because in my book he's always number one) but his attitude has certainly pissed off all the LA Galaxy fans. The main reason of discontent is that Becks reportedly got somewhere around $200 million for a five-year contract with the team, a huge sum of money that the team plans to partially cover by raising the ticket fare. Which is fine for the fans, granted they get to see Mr. Golden Balls himself on the field. Which they didn't so far. Therefore...

Over the weekend, David was benched once again, but the fans were not equally willing to turn a blind eye to the fact that the tickets for the game cost twice their value. Having paid $120 to see Becks play against Toronto FC and not getting what they were promised (namely, Becks on the field), the fans took to booing and placards as their only way of voicing their discontent. Meanwhile, David was seated in the sidelines, wearing a black suit and tie and clearly not enjoying being the butt of all jokes.

Speaking of which, among the most common messages for David that night were tee-shirts with 'All I Came For Was to See the Spice Girl' and big boards reading 'David, Welcome to America Where People Like You Get Paid to Do Nothing', 'Bench It Like Beckham', 'Beckham Is Rubbish' and 'Beckham, Bent and Broken'. And there was booing too, which only became louder the moment David's face was shown on the big screen. In reply, the star issued the following statement after the game: 'I'd love to be out there on the field, especially with the number of fans here and the fact they've paid a lot of money to see the Galaxy. But I have to be careful with my injury. I'm here for five years and maybe more, so that's where people maybe have to be slightly patient.'

And, now, back to gossip: why don't they just strap one on Victoria, put her in an uniform, leave the high heels and send her to play? You know she would do some great damage among the rival team with those concrete breasts of hers... (P.S. And you actually believed I knew nothing about sports?! Who's laughing now, ha?)

People are angry: how can he shop and dance with an ankle injury but not perform on the field?

Well, the same goes for Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, Britney and many other 'celebrities'...

Maybe people are just jealous of David because he's pretty...
