Relationships are pretty tough. They're even tougher for those who, for some reason, have no choice but spend days on end away from one another. The good news is that, thanks to a high-tech device, long-distance love affairs might soon get a whole lot easier.

The device in question, dubbed the Kissinger, promises to let people smooch their better half from miles away. According to its creators, it pretty much teleports kisses. In doing so, it helps people who are physically apart stay connected.

So, how does the Kissinger work?

As detailed by Live Science, the Kissinger is a high-tech device that is fitted with lips made from light-pink silicone and even eyes. Check out the photo accompanying this article to get a better idea of what it looks like.

The idea is to connect two such devices with one another. Once the connection is established, those looking to plant one on their beloved but can't because they are worlds apart need only smooch the Kissinger instead.

During the kiss, the device records the force of the smooch and other variables and transmits them to its twin. To receive the kiss, the person for whom the sweet lovin' session was intended need only put their lips on the receiving Kissinger.

This second device will reenact the touches that its distant twin received, essentially recreating the sensation of a kiss. Hence, the person smooching the twin Kissinger will actually be receiving the kiss that their beloved sent them.

Mind you, making out with a Kissinger will undoubtedly feel very different to being with your loved one. Still, inventor Hooman Samani expects plenty of people will want to buy this device. “It is mostly a symbolic romantic device,” he said in a statement.

Where can I get one?

The bad news is that the Kissinger is not yet available for purchase. Its creators estimate that, should all go as planned, they will be able to introduce ordinary folks to this high-tech kissing machine sometime in 2015. Once launched, the Kissinger will sell for $50 (€40) a piece.

Although the device is yet to make its public debut, Hooman Samani and colleagues have until now allowed 10 couples to have their way with it. It is understood that, of the people who got to test the device, everybody loved it and asked if they could keep it.

“When I received the package and opened it, I said to myself: OMG this is so cute!” a user said. “I wish it was designed differently so that I could use it in public as well,” another one recommended.
