Lady Gaga is the latest celebrity to get the parody treatment from Weird Al Yankovic. After he penned “I Perform This Way,” inspired by Gaga’s hit single “Born This Way,” he’s also directed a video for it: you can see it in full below.
Just as he was about to start working on the video, Yankovic had some troubles with Gaga’s people, who said he could use her original song for his parody, as we also reported at the time.
When all seemed lost, things took a turn for the better and Gaga gave Yankovic her blessing for the parody. So he immediately set out to work on the video, which surely doesn’t disappoint.
The clip sees Yankovic as Gaga in most of her iconic outfits and some that she never wore. For those wondering how come Al is looking so fit, wonder no more: his head is superimposed on a woman’s body.
As with most of his videos, this one too represents a visual “translation” of the lyrics, with the result being over the top, sometimes a bit odd and incredibly funny.
For instance, when Yankovic sings about being a troll, he is shown as a troll. If he sings about poking out one of the dancers’ eyes with his dress, he does just that.
“Directed by Yankovic himself, ‘Perform This Way’ features the funnyman’s visage superimposed on a woman in various forms of ridiculous Gaga-style dress, including steak and bubble outfits,” PopEater writes of the video.
“Yankovic's latest album ‘Alpocalypse,’ out June 21, is the follow-up to the Grammy-nominated ‘Straight Outta Lynwood,’ and features parodies of Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry,” the same e-zine notes.
