Different smaller aspects will tip the balance in the favor of one console or the other

The next-gen console war is already being waged between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, even if there are still many months separating fans from the release of their new favorite devices at the end of the year.

While important aspects like the price, power, or feature list will certainly convince gamers to go with one device over the other, smaller things, from the controller, to the different advantages built into them will also tip the scales in favor of one console as opposed to its rival.

Over the past week, quite a few such details have appeared about the PS4 and Xbox One, from the controllers or peripherals, to their current or potential software features.

First up, for the PlayStation 4, the console's chief hardware architect, Mark Cerny, once again emphasized the quality of the new DualShock 4 controller, largely because of the amount of feedback Sony gathered from actual video game developers. What's more, the device is so impressive that no negative opinions have appeared about it.

Sony also confirmed that owners of different PlayStation 3 wireless headsets will be able to use them with the PlayStation 4, instead of the mono headset that's included by default in all of the console's retail packages.

This is in sharp contrast to Microsoft's Xbox One, which relies just on its Kinect to pick up the voice of the player, instead of offering a wired chat headset into its regular pack.

Speaking of the Kinect, the Xbox One received a few more kind words this week, thanks to an anonymous developer who's apparently working at Microsoft on applications for the next-gen home console.

According to him, the device is quite impressive, and the Kinect will amaze users with its enhanced capabilities. What's more, software features like the Snap function will make multitasking a breeze on the console.

Microsoft's Mark Whitten also took the chance to note that interesting features, like the Family Sharing system, might make a comeback, after they were scrapped during the great used games DRM reversal last month.

Gamers should expect this war in terms of statements or details to continue in the near future, at least until the PS4 and Xbox One are released.
