While in terms of consoles trading in games at retailers or reselling them to others is a great avenue to recoup some of the investment, such a thing isn't possible on the PC.
Fortunately, however, a variety of new ways of making money off games has appeared in recent times.
Most of them have to do with Steam, Valve's extremely popular digital distribution service. Here, you have a few different ways of making money with games you’ve already bought or those that can be played for free.
First up, there's the possibility of earning Steam Trading Cards for the titles you own. These can be sold on the Steam Community Market. While prices sometimes aren't that high, they accumulate and you can starting earning a few Euros or Dollars rather easily.
After that, you can delve into the world of in-game items. A variety of Valve titles, like Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive have items that drop for players while in the game. Most of them can also be sold on the Market rather easily, especially crates that can contain mystery items and require a key sold by Valve.
This avenue of money making is quite developed and, if you're lucky, you can score a lot of great and expensive items, such as couriers in Dota 2 or knife skins in CS:GO.
Recently, I've also discovered the PlayFire rewards, which also give you money that can be spent on GreenManGaming based on your gaming activity. Challenges revolve around starting games for the first time and earning specific achievements, but for those who want challenges and reasons to try out new titles, it's certainly a good method of earning extra cash, especially if you already shop at GMG.
