The first-person shooter from Guerrilla Games needs to show how great the PS4 is

The recent delay of Driveclub for the PlayStation 4 left the Sony next-gen console with a pretty weak triple-A exclusive lineup, consisting of just Killzone: Shadow Fall, a new first-person shooter from Guerrilla Games, and Knack, an action adventure made by Sony's Japan studio.

Sure, quite a lot of third-party games will increase the triple-A lineup, in the form of Assassin's Creed 4, Battlefield 4, Need for Speed: Rivals, Call of Duty: Ghosts, or Injustice: Gods Among Us.

What's more, Sony is betting big on digital titles, offering some for free, like Contrast, but also via the new PlayStation Network, like Blacklight: Retribution, Minecraft, Resogun, Warframe, or War Thunder.

Even so, it's mostly up to Killzone: Shadow Fall to really show just how powerful the next-gen console is and set the benchmark in terms of visuals at least until the launch window exclusives appear, like Infamous: Second Son, Driveclub, and other such titles.

Fortunately for Sony, Killzone is looking to be a big winner, at least judging by the wide array of gameplay videos and screenshots that have surfaced up until now.

These have shown just how capable Guerrilla Games is at creating a great looking experience and, thanks to the videos, it seems that the gunplay and actual shooting are also shaping up well.

By far one of the best pieces of news for Sony this week was that Shadow Fall went gold, meaning it's ready to appear for the next-gen console next month. This will ensure that the game will be available in more than enough numbers once the PS4 rolls out in North America and Europe.

Now, Sony needs to make sure that shooter fans know that with the PS4 they'll be able to enjoy a great exclusive experience, not just third-party ones like Call of Duty: Ghosts or Battlefield 4.

Is Killzone: Shadow Fall your first pick for the PS4 or are you opting for another title to go alongside the console?
