Several issues continue to affect the huge event in Germany

Last week one of the biggest gaming conventions in the world, Gamescom, took place in Cologne, Germany, more specifically in the KoelnMesse complex.

After its doors closed on Sunday, August 25, the organizers confirmed that a whopping 340,000 attendees from 88 countries visited the huge convention in order to check out the 635 different exhibitors.

Practically all figures went up, according to the official stats, but, unfortunately, the space was the same, 140,000 square meters. This means that the main exhibition was in four halls, while the business area occupied two smaller spaces spread out over two floors.

While the halls of the Koelnmesse are absolutely massive, not even they were able to fit in all the people who visited Gamescom this year due to several issues.

First up, quite a lot of booths were really close to one another, making the transition from one to another turn into a hectic experience.

Secondly, certain booths, like Riot Games' League of Legends one, which featured several competitive matches on big screens, drew in a huge amount of fans that just stood there and admired the competition.

Other booths, like Microsoft's Xbox One exhibit, organized giveaways that forced those who wanted to win to stick around the booth in case their name is mentioned. As you can imagine, this led to another huge crowd around that area, making it practically impossible to navigate.

The huge amount of visitors also forced the organizers to create an impromptu detour for those going into one direction, while the others used the main hallway.

If Gamescom 2014 wants to improve upon this year's edition, then it most certainly needs to reserve more halls for the different exhibitors and force them to create booths that are further apart and with adequate room for different competitions and events.

If you were among the 340,000 people who went to Gamescom 2013, what other suggestions do you have to improve the event?
