Dead Space 2 was a good gaming experience, especially given that it was the first multiplatform big title to be released this year, and we delivered a pretty positive review for the latest Necromorph combating outing of engineer Isaac Clarke.

But the game also suffers from some issues, mostly linked to the atmosphere and to how they mix the combat focused gameplay to the story telling and to the insanity that is supposed to be permeating the universe, which are best detailed in this Game Diary.

And the game also failed to really deliver the horror many expected from it, opting for some over-produced sequences that were more exposition vehicles than true scares.

But Dead Space as a series has qualities that make it one of those franchises that can go for 4 or 5 big releases with no problems as long as the developers don't make any major sales killing mistakes, while also delivering side experiences on smaller platforms, comic books and other media based on the world.

I am already looking forward to Dead Space 3 as one of the highlights of early 2013 (maybe fall 2012), a game which manages to blend the creeping insanity that did not distinguish between real and inside the main's character head with the better directed action scenes of the sequel.

Visceral has shown us that it can take criticism and create a better experience as a result and that they can develop the mechanics of Dead Space to make the sequel better than the original without making it radically different.

And Dead Space 3 can be that big third-person shooter game that manages to appeal to more than the crowd that looks to take out aliens and manages to create something on the level of Alien, with a bigger cast and some truly complex questions hiding just under the surface that deals with destroying the enemies that appear on screen.
