In the sixth week of Operation Ababil 2, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cyber Fighters launched distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks only against three US financial institutions, but this week they seem to be determined to make up for it.

According to the Hilf-ol-Fozoul blog, ever since the hacktivists initiated week 7 of Operation Ababil 2, they’ve taken down the sites of Harris Bank, Citibank, Wells Fargo, Regions Bank, PNC, BB&T, and Bank of America.

The sites of all these banks were inaccessible for customers at some point.

In the meantime, while US officials keep insisting that Iran is behind Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cyber Fighters, the Iranian Cyber Police has launched its own investigation into the matter.

After analyzing the recent attacks on Citibank, the unit’s representatives said there was no evidence to point that Iran was launching the attacks. Furthermore, they say that the computers of Iranian users have also been compromised and turned into botnet zombies.
