Shortly after leaking the phone numbers of over 4,000 Turkcell employees, hackers of the RedHack group have announced a new attack. They’ve disrupted the official website of the Central Bank of Turkey (tcmb.gov.tr).

The hackers have told me that a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack has been launched against the financial institution’s website to protest against the fact that the Central Bank has allowed the Turkish lira to lose its value against foreign currency.

The Financial Times has reported that the Central Bank could hike rates to protect the currency, but the matter is sensitive from a political standpoint.

At the time of writing, tcmb.gov.tr appears to be back online.

In addition to the DDOS attack against tcmb.gov.tr, RedHack has also revealed the existence of a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the website of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy (aile.gov.tr).

The Ministry of Family and Social Policy has been targeted by the hacktivists in protest against “child marriages and women deaths.”
