Google warned users about the site possibly being hacked

The official website of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (guilfordcountysheriff.com) has been breached. For the past weeks, Google has been warning users that the “site may be hacked.”

According to The Stokesdale Star, representatives of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office claim that the site has been cleaned up. Rick Melton, who manages the website, has told the publication that the site will be reinstalled from a clean backup.

Melton believes that the hackers might have exploited a vulnerability in GoDaddy’s systems, instead of a security hole in the website itself.

Crime statistics, details of inmates and other information are stored in a database that’s hosted on a separate server.

Google still displays the warning message in search engine results, but there’s no alert from Google Safe Browsing when the website is accessed. Other services also show that guilfordcountysheriff.com is clean.
