The official website of Martin Schulz, the president of the European Parliament, was hacked by unknown individuals, who managed to reach some databases.

It is unclear whether the hacker(s) vandalized the website in order to make a statement, but they managed to access databases, as a post on Friday on a public paste site reveals.

According to the information on Pastebin, the intruder(s) retrieved two databases and were also successful in extracting a password in plain text.

They relied on SQL injection in the attack, which allows inserting malicious SQL statements into a web application. If the input is not properly sanitized, the commands are executed and the attacker can gain access to sensitive databases used by the targeted website.

At the moment, the reasons behind the attack are unknown, but it is possible that the attackers are politically motivated, since it does not contain any information that could be damaging to the politician or visitors of his website.

After trespassing was completed, the hackers took snapshots proving that they had access to the internals of the website.

In one of the pics they clearly show that access to one of the databases was obtained, and in the other an SQL error is captured.
