A total of five eset.es subdomains have been hacked and defaced by DrD0x, a hacker from Panama. Eset.es is operated by Ontinet, the only distributor of ESET products in Spain.

The impacted subdomains are promos.eset.es, tienda.eset.es, reg.eset.es, gratis.eset.es, and demos.eset.es. Currently, the defacement pages have been removed from all the domains and the website appears to be working properly, but mirrors are available on zone-h.org.

“Yesterday, October 24, 2013, several subdomains administered by our Spanish distributor were defaced for a limited time by a criminal, who exploited a bug in a third party component of the sites,” ESET representatives said in a mailed statement.

“Our distributor is currently investigating this incident, however the affected webs were quickly back online.”

The websites of antivirus distributors are often targeted by hackers who want to boost their reputation. That’s because in most cases they’re not as secure as the vendor’s website itself, and for many users it might appear as if the antivirus company’s website is the one that got hacked.
