An Iranian hacker is responsible for the cyberattack

An Iranian hacker that uses the online moniker “le4derofh4ck” (Leader of Hack) has breached the systems of the New York University. As a result of the breach, he has managed to deface the official site of the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at New York University (apa.nyu.edu).

Cyber-N reports that the hacker wanted to breach NYU’s main site, but security systems didn't allow him to do it. So, instead, he defaced the Asian/Pacific/American Institute’s website.

“We love Iran. Your security is very low,” the hacker wrote on the defaced page next to a flag of Iran.

NYU representatives quickly pulled the plug on the Asian/Pacific/American Institute site. At the time of writing, the website is offline.

I’ve reached out to the Asian/Pacific/American Institute in hopes that they can provide clarifications on what happened. I’ll update this post in case they respond.
