Are you an iPhone hater? Do you feel like you want to throw up whenever you hear of the "iPod Revolution?" If this is you, or if you simply hate Apple for everything it stands for, the guys at smashmyiphone3g.com promise to make your day by smashing Apple portables and taping the whole thing for you to rejoice.

"After we collect $650 we will take the money to
our nearest Apple Store to buy an iPhone 3G outright," says the website. "It will be opened in store, right after the purchase and smashed, all the while recording the action on film." The video will be shown on the respective site and only acts as a "social experiment," for the entertainment of its donors and visitors, its members claim.

"This website is dedicated to people who hate the 'iPod Revolution'," the site explains. "We are raising money to buy an iPod, so we could go down to a store, buy it, and smash it right there on the spot in front of all the people." The reason they are doing this, they claim, is because "you can't trust companies, particuarly [sic] when they're listed and dictate youth trends *cough Apple *cough. A reasonable price for any new mobile phone purchased as it is (sans contract), retails for $650. Since Apple wants to usurp Blackberry's #1 position as the preferred business communication device this is not an unreasonable assumption."

The FAQ lists your usual type of questions like "What do I get for donating?" and "How do I know you won't steal the funds?" The website promises to send you the "smashing" video a day before public release. Even though an iPhone 3G comes quite pricey ($650 without a contract), you can donate as little as you want /can afford. However, donations above $3 are preferred "as Paypal takes a decent cut of any donations," it is pointed out on the site.

Those who are anything but OK with such an initiative - you know what they say, "don't shoot the messenger." Comments are more than welcome nevertheless. As for those who embrace it, have a look here.

If some people don't like Apple and what they think companies like them stand for, that's fine.
However, to waste considerable amounts of money on a futile 'demonstraion' to raise awarness of Apple's commercialism is rediculous. How exactly does anyone benefit from the money donated? Can anyone see the irony here?
If people really want to get rid of unwanted money why not donate it to charity that will go to help people less fortunate than themselves, rather than these idiots?

I agree, it is such a waste for people like that to destroy a device just because "they don't like it". It could of gone to someone who would actually use it, or the money could of been put forward for charity to help people in need.
