Rick Duffy, an independent software developer, has released Webcorder 1.3, an update to his iOS app that allows users to create a QuickTime movie of an entire web browsing session. Webcorder does not capture audio or streaming video, but it will record everything the user does and sees on the screen.

Described as a simple web browser whose main function is to record on-screen activity, Webcorder serves those who wish to record their browsing sessions and export them in a 15 minute (maximum) QuickTime movie.

The app also supports screen snapshots of a web browsing session, but it will not capture audio or streaming video, Duffy outlines.

It will, however, record your web navigation, scrolling, and so on, in either portrait or landscape format.

“You can then mail this movie off, or copy it into your PC via iTunes or the Photo app.  Even use a movie editor later to add a narrative of other soundtrack,” Duffy proposes.

The developer believes his app is perfect for creating a movie to use for marketing a website, or to create website tutorials.

Version 1.3 resolves an issue where devices with retina screens would not record the entire screen has been fixed, and adds the ability to copy movies and snapshots directly to the built-in Photos app.

On his web site, Duffy posts a list of common discovered uses for his app:

· Send a friend a movie of how you found something on the internet, rather than just sending a link. · Create demos of your internet web site for marketing uses. · Help a user who is experiencing some kind of web issue, by allowing them to send a movie of their problem. · Create a movie to help you remember how to get someplace that is more complicated than a link. · Create movies to have a copy of a  web session where you registered for something, created a login, choose a password, and so on.

Duffy notes that “when you want to make a browser movie, Webcorder is the tool to use.” However, he admits that, for day-to-day browsing, a full-featured browser like Safari might be a better tool.
