HP might not have managed to do anything involving webOS so far, at least nothing that appealed to enough consumers, but it means to remedy the situation with the TouchPad tablet, which is now up for order in Canada.

The story of HP's efforts to make a successful push on the tablet market is one that has yet to actually yield success, despite the fact that its first projects appeared early last year.

That being said, the company does seem to be getting serious, now that the TouchPad has become a reality.

That the product would start selling around the middle of this month is a fact that has been known for some time.

Now that July 15 has finally come, sales are already starting, with one report saying that Canadian customers should be able to place orders now (other countries should also start shipping it soon, if they haven't already).

The one with 16 GB of built-in flash storage is priced at $449.99, while the one featuring 32 GB has a price of $549.99.

Those that are in need of a reminder as to what the slate is composed of, the device has, at the heart, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz.

Also, the 10.1-inch display boasts a native resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels, while the WiFi and 1.3 front-facing camera cover the issue of interactivity with the user and the world at large.

So far, some non-iPad slates went through episodes of being sold out within hours or minutes from release.

It is impossible to tell if the TouchPad will go through the same, especially with how webOS hasn't exactly become a major phenomenon after HP bought Palm. Still, it ultimately falls to consumers to decide just how big a success the TouchPad becomes.
