A new flavor of Palm Pre's webOS operating system is reported to be on its way to the owners of the newly launched high-end device, namely WebOS 1.1. The new software version, the news says, should come to display with a series of improvements and enhancements, while also including a wide range of new applications.

The upcoming firmware update, which seems to be the most important one so far, should land within the following 30 days, according to PreCentral. Moreover, the rumors also point towards the fact that it will include a variety of enhancements targeted at the Exchange Active Sync capabilities of the device, which means that the upgrade is mainly aimed to leverage the phone's usability in the business area, while there will also be some targeted at the security of the handset.

The EAS and security improvements that should be present in WebOS 1.1 include IT-initiated remote wipe, Required PIN/password and PIN/password complexity, with a minimum PIN/password length set, device wipe after a certain number of failed PIN attempts, Auto-lock when unused, as well as Improved digital certificates. For what it's worth, it seems that the phone will be enhanced so as to prove a great option for corporate users, which doesn't sound that bad in the end.

In addition to this series of enhancements, the upcoming webOS iteration is also supposed to bring a variety of applications to the phone, yet it seems that there are no exact details on whether these will come from Palm itself or from third-party developers. In case the update proves real, we should be able to find out more details on what it will bring along soon, since it should become available either this month or at the beginning of the next. Stay tuned to learn more on this as soon as the info emerges.
