Only yesterday, Sunnyvale-based Palm released a new iteration of its operating system running on the Palm Pre and also announced the series of changes that had been included in the webOS 1.1, though it seems that only a part of them have been unveiled until now. The company might have focused on showing the major features and improvements that the new flavor of the OS comes with, yet users have already discovered that a wide range of unreported enhancements are also available.

The list of the undocumented new features in webOS 1.1 includes Photo app improvements, such as the “Screen Captures” name for the Screenshot album, a more distinct bar between all photos and albums, faster photo rendering, or the fact that the preview thumbs slide in from the right too, Emailing Memos, an option that pops up in the memo app menu, animated drop down menus, including animations in Context menus, or changed sound for notifications.

Other changes include a new font for the Browser, the key combo for opening a new card while in browser has been disabled, improvements for the Javascript interpreter performance, a new icon for AIM, the number of auto-complete / auto correct entries in the dictionary has been leveraged, better Gmail handling, and other more enhancements, including for the system's speed performance. At the same time, we should also note that some of the homebrew apps need some fixing before working properly again.

The fact that Palm already came up with so many improvements for the device should make users rejoice, especially considering that the Pre has been on the market for less than two months now. As the number of applications for the webOS is expected to also rise rapidly, more functionality will soon be added to the phone. According to PreCentral, a variety of other new features have been included in the new 1.1 flavor of the platform as well, and users might discover them in time, so stick around for more updates on the matter.
