Both the regular e-reader and the Glowlight model will benefit

Barnes & Noble has decided that it was finally time for an update to its two best-selling electronic book readers: Nook Simple Touch and Simple Touch with GlowLight.

Some may remember that, back in 2011 when it was released, Nook Simple Touch shipped with a limited, hidden web browser.

B&N subsequently removed the function in a software update.

Now, B&N have decided to restore the capability, if only so that owners of the devices might be allowed to send e-mails and read news headlines and extracts.

Given the small size of the screens, true Internet surfing is not entirely feasible. Had the Nooks been larger, like the 13.3-Inch Sony e-reader we saw last week, things would have been different, they aren't.

Keep in mind that the software upgrade isn't coming yet. Instead, it will begin reaching the devices over Wi-Fi on June 1.
