Sony has decided to introduce the new PSP option in an attempt to increase the interest of consumers in the mobile gaming device so that they view it more like a handheld entertainment center.

The software upgrade allows wireless Internet access with a new Web browser to connect to news, entertainment, online search and e-mail.

It also increases data security on the device and improves digital photo-sharing and video playback capabilities.

"The Internet browser and other added functionality will further enhance the user experience beyond the unprecedented portable entertainment already provided by PSP", stated Andrew House, executive Vice president for Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Meanwhile, PlayStation Patrol, featuring PlayStation 2 and PSP reaches Denver Area.

The PlayStation Patrol is a 40-foot long vehicle, featuring twelve interactive kiosks and eight PSP kiosks. The vehicle is set-up to play all of the hottest and best-selling videogame titles available across PlayStation platforms. The PlayStation Patrol Scout, a PlayStation branded Hummer, will accompany the Patrol and help spread the news that the PlayStation Patrol is in town. Coupons will be available for discounts on PlayStation 2 or PSP software titles.

The event is Free and Open to the Public, states an official Sony press release dated 24 August.

Which means Sony is pretty serious about holding on to its position as a leader in the industry.
