Just days ago, a certain leaked report revealed that a certain German company was planning to launch a certain tablet on a certain day in July. Said company, known as Neofonie, had been thinking of marketing its slate under the name of WePad. However, it seems that the manufacturer has since had a change of heart and changed the name into WeTab. This name modification seems to coincide with the device's sudden appearance as available for pre-order on Amazon.de.

According to tcmagazine, Neofonie decided to change the product's name at the last minute in order to “clearly differentiate our products within the international market for tablet computers.” This is a sensible move, for two main reasons. One is that, now that it is called WeTab, the device will have little chance of being mistaken for a certain other product. Additionally, it wouldn't be in a product's best interest for its name to so clearly point towards a competitive electronic.

Besides the name, nothing about the WeTab has seen any modifications. Measuring 288 by 190 by 13 mm and weighing 850 grams, the tablet is powered by an Intel Atom N450 CPU, with a clock speed of 1.66GHz. This CPU is backed up by 1GB of RAM. The screen itself measures 11.6 inches and has a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. As for connectivity and I/O, there is Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, USB connectivity (two ports), optional 3G and GPS, as well as an accelerometer.

The Neofonie WeTab is available in two storage options, either with 16GB (449 Euro) or 32GB (569 Euro). The latter has the full feature set (WiFi, 3G, GPS, HDMI) and, most importantly, the ability to play back Full-HD videos. The exact graphics solution that allows this is not mentioned, though it is likely a Broadcom accelerator chip.
