Free-texting app WeChat is already enjoying a great deal of popularity, but now that version 5.3.0.16 is out, you can bet it will become twice as popular thanks to its instant-translate feature which bridges the gap between cultures.

Say you’ve met that special someone on a bus, at a party, or at the beach, but they speak a different language than you. Launch WeChat and start texting each other. Long-press the messages to get the translate option and boom! everything you’re saying to each other now makes sense. Sure you’ll feel a little stupid at first, but love knows no boundaries. And there’s a good chance you’ll even start picking up some lines while you’re at it. Before you know it, you’re speaking Thai!

WeChat supports English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

In addition to free texting, WeChat also offers voice messages and video calls. Version 5.3.0.16 further adds options to create a group with friends nearby, add tags to favorite messages for quick searches, and select multiple messages and add them to Favorites. Download WeChat for your iDevice and start new, unexpected friendships today.
