Companies like Getac and Panasonic are eyeing the potential market segment

The main problem with bringing tablets to work when you're employed in a factory or some other sort of industrial environment is the likelihood of the slate becoming defective.

That is why rugged notebooks and tablets exist, and why companies like Getac and Panasonic can sell things like V100/V200 convertibles and the Toughbook H2 tablet, respectively.

Seeing that there is a solid market for such devices, these companies, and other of their ilk, are reportedly considering branching out.

Which is to say, they intend to release 7-inch and 8-inch rugged tablets at some point in the future.

There are already some, but not many, which isn't that great. After all, 10.1-inch and larger rugged slates are all well and good, but the size also means the extra strengthening materials make them pretty heavy. Smaller screen sizes could take the edge off.
