Waze, the free navigation app based on crowdsourcing, has just got better, as the company announced a new special Holiday Version of the software solution. Along with it, waze also put in place a holiday treasure hunt, which started on Thursday and is set to end on January 1, and which requires for users to search for a series of chests on the map and open them. The treasure hunt comes on the table shortly after the company announced the introduction of ‘Road Goodies,’ small icons scattered over the map that are worthy bonus points as soon as a driver reaches them.

What the new waze Holiday Version comes around with includes integration with Foursquare. The latter, in case you might have not encountered it already, comes as location-based geo-gaming app. What the waze integration brings to the equation includes the possibility for those using Foursquare to check on various locations from the application through the waze client. As for those who are not yet users of Foursquare, they will probably also like the application and start using it too, the company states.

Another new feature in waze is multiple language support: “And last, but not least, the new holiday version also includes Spanish and Italian support, both on the client interface as well as the audio navigation prompts. These translations were fully undertaken by waze community members, and we’re turning to the rest of you to help out with the waze translation project. Check out the waze Wiki for more information on how to get involved. We’re currently working on Bosnian, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Russian – but feel free to add any language that you wanna be wazing in,” waze says.

And there is also the waze Holiday Treasure Hunt, of course. As soon as the new version of the application is downloaded and installed, the treasure chests scattered all over the map will emerge, and those who will open them will have the possibility to earn bonus points, waze goodiebags or even Amazon giftcards. According to waze, “You’ll get a pop-up after you drive over them, telling you if you’ve won anything, or if the chest has been emptied by another wazer already. If you’re a winner, you’ll get an email with instructions on how to claim your prize shortly thereafter…” However, there are some participation conditions users need to take into consideration, all listed on waze's blog.
