Windows Phone fans have been hit with two important apps in a matter of hours. Shortly after Instagram announced that its beta version was available for download via Windows Phone Store, Waze introduced its official application as well.

Developers have issued a short announcement highlighting their excitement for the release and promising that they will continue to improve it based on users’ feedback.

“After much anticipation, Waze is now available for download on Windows Phone! We are extremely excited to be available on the platform, and look forward to helping many new Wazers outsmart traffic.”

With Waze, Windows Phone users will finally be able to avoid congested traffic. The application offers live routing based on community-generated, real-time traffic and road info.

Developers have also confirmed that community-contributed road alerts including accidents, hazards, police traps, road closures and more have been included as well.

Moreover, Waze features automatic re-routing as conditions on the road change, so Windows Phone users will be offered a live experience from their start location to their destination.

Waze for Windows Phone can also learn the user's frequent destinations, commuting hours and preferred routes, as well as find the cheapest gas station along certain routes. Other highlights of the application include:

- Simple sharing of your ETA, expected delays and a heads up upon arrival; - Earn points and move up the ranks in your community as you contribute road info; - Live maps, constantly edited and updated by Waze community map editors.

It is also worth mentioning that Waze will automatically shut down if the application is run in the background and the user hasn't driven for a while.

You can now download Waze for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. Keep in mind that the app should be fully compatible with all devices running Windows Phone 8 and up.
