We all know how Wayne Rooney's style is on the football field. His determination sometimes - actually, almost every time - exceeds the decent bounds and the referee has to do his job. Even if he is one of the most loved and respected strikers in the Premiership, Rooney is having a hard time spending a whole 90 minutes inside a football match.
And that is not very good news for Alex Ferguson. Most of the time, Manchester United has to play 10 against 11. Actually, Man U is very used to finishing a match with one player less than how they started it. If you also think about the suspension penalties, the United fans have every right to be concerned for the future.
Not Rooney, though. Despite the fact that he failed to finish his last two games on the field - World Cup quarterfinal against Portugal and Amsterdam Tournament encounter against FC Porto - Rooney is still determined to keep playing the same aggressive game that made him the feared striker that he is.
"Possibly I am getting picked on. Referees get a lot of headlines with some decisions they make. I am not having a go at referees but that is the way the game has gone. Sometimes, referees have to take the consequences of that. I play football the way I see it. It happens with Cristiano Ronaldo as well. He gets a lot of unfair decisions against him. The refs are trying to grab headlines too much rather than ref a game", stated Rooney.
The English striker managed to escape a 3-game suspension - for the moment - after his sent-off against FC Porto. Both him and Paul Scholes will be able to play in the Premiership opener, but may face a 3-match suspension afterwards.
