Tizen 3.0, the new operating system for mobile phones from Samsung, will be using the Wayland compositor instead of the traditional X.

This is very good news for Wayland fans, because now this new display server is backed by two major companies, Samsung and Intel.

According to tizenexperts.com, Tizen 3.0 will have multiuser support, 64-bit support, a new 3D UI framework, a 3D Rendering Engine for 2D and 3D Objects in the real world, Dynamic Animation Library, and an HTML5-based application runtime, just to name a few.

Given the power of Samsung in today's market, Wayland will probably get a large boost. It's not actually a secret that they were already experimenting with Wayland, but it's nice to see that big companies are actually very interested in what's happening in the open source world.
