Wayland, a protocol for a compositor to talk to its clients, as well as a C library implementation of that protocol, which can be used as a standalone display server running on Linux kernel modesetting and evdev input devices, has reached version 1.4.

A new stable build has been released, and Wayland 1.4 comes with a lot of new changes and features.

“We didn't have a lot of activity since the release candidate (1.3.93). There was a test suite fix in Wayland and fixes for 4 bugs in Weston. The wayland repository continues to mature and moves slowly. This cycle again only saw a few wayland changes, most of which where fairly unexciting,” stated Kristian Høgsberg on the official mailing list.

Highlights of Wayland 1.4:

• A couple of utility functions have been added to help compositors guard against broken or malicious clients;
• Subsurfaces protocol has been moved to the Wayland repo and, as such, promoted to official Wayland protocol;
• A few scanner error message improvements have been implemented.

A detailed list of changes can be found in the official announcement. Download Wayland 1.4 right now from Softpedia.
