Its predecessor, the Miix was a 10.1-inch Windows slate

As Intel CEO announced, Bay Trail devices have already started to be spotted in the wild. Introducing Lenovo’s latest attempt at taking the tablet market, the next-gen Miix 2, which runs Windows 8.1

VP and general manager for Lenovo’s Netbook business unit Bai Peng introduced the newcomer.

“Many users want the convenience of a smaller screen tablet, but do not want to lose the performance and convenience of a powerful, quad core Windows 8.1 device. With the Lenovo Miix 2 8-inch, users can take advantage of a small, light form factor, without sacrificing performance.”

“The Lenovo Miix 2 8-inch is a great example of how thoughtful design can deliver the best of both worlds.”

So this is an 8-incher built especially for portability with a total weight of 350 g / 0.77 pounds The slate boasts a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels with 10-point multi-touch display and gets its power from an Intel Atom Bay Trail T Quad Core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

Integrated Intel HD Graphics have also been added. There’s also a 2MP front camera and 5MP rear one, Bluetooth and 3G-GPS 3 connectivity. 32GB or 64GB of storage are offered on board.

Users can hope to squeeze up to seven hours of battery life without going back for a recharge. Lenovo has also bundled Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 with the slate and there’s also an optional cover and stylus if you want that.

The new tablet will be available in the U.S later this month, the 32GB variant retailing at $299 / €221, while the 64GB will become available for $349 / $258.
