Watson is a search engine similar to applications like Google Desktop Search or MSN Desktop Search; the only difference being that it has different operating concepts. In Watson's case, the user won't have to type in any keywords, the application monitoring what words are typed into Word, Outlook or Powerpoint. Using complex syntaxes, the tool will present the most relevant information from the desktop or from the Internet.
The program works as a personal searching assistant and the user is able to specify the sources Watson should search into. Unlike other searching applications, Watson doesn't build an index of the files on the computer, the application searching only while the user is working.
Microsoft was thrilled by this technology and has decided to include it as an add-in to MSN Desktop Search. Watson is a commercial application, therefore the add-in will work only for 30 days, after that the users being required to pay a monthly fee of $9.95 or an annual one of $100.
Al Wasserberger, Intellext's executive president, said that it won't get any money from Microsoft, the main benefit being that Watson will become known to MSN's users.
