The EK-FC R9-290X covers all the parts that produce heat

Another week, another announcement by EK Water Block, the Ljubljana-based premium water cooling gear manufacturer. As few will find shocking, the AMD Radeon R9 290X graphics card is getting served.

AMD Radeon R9 290X is the new flagship performance graphics card from Advanced Micro Devices. It is based on the Hawaii GPU.

It was hoped that AMD would release the card by now, but it hasn't happened. That hasn't stopped EK from releasing a water block for it though.

Case in point, the EK-FC R9-290X is now up for pre-order. We suppose shipments will start as soon as the board itself becomes available.

There is, in fact, a shipment date in the press release, October 25, so the adapter will probably come out on the same day, this Friday.

That said, the EK-FC R9-290X covers the GPU, RAM chips and VRM (voltage regulation module), and has a very high flow design, which ensures good cooling even in systems with weak water pumps.

There are no fewer than six different versions of the new product. There is a backplate to be found too.

EK-FC R9-290X - €92.95 / $92.95 EK-FC R9-290X - Acetal - $94.95 / €94.95 EK-FC R9-290X - Nickel - $104.95 / €104.95 EK-FC R9-290X - Acetal+Nickel - $105.95 / €105.95 EK-FC R9-290X - Nickel (Original CSQ) - $105.95 / €105.95 EK-FC R9-290X Backplate - Black - $26,38 / €26.38

Up to four EK-FC R9 290X can be interconnected by means of the EK-FC Terminal. And since the water blocks take up a single slot, it enables quad-channel CrossFire multi-GPU configurations even on motherboards that aren't XL-ATX or similarly gigantic in size.

Pre-installed screw-in brass standoffs allow for safe and quick set-up, and the 0.6 mm wide microchannel structure of the cooling engine maximizes heat transfer without sacrificing the low hydraulic restriction design.
