If you’ve been living under a rock for the past two weeks or so, then it’s worth reminding you that Microsoft will bring back the Start menu in a future Windows update in order to make the desktop look and feel more familiar for adopters of its modern operating system.

What we have here is the video footage presented by Microsoft during the BUILD 2014 developer conference where it revealed the Start menu interface for the first time, confirming that users would get live tiles, a run option, and power controls, all in a single and eye-candy Start menu.

While we’ve also heard that this could be just a mockup of a potential Start menu that could come back in Windows at some point, there’s no doubt that it looks very appealing, so such a design clearly has what it takes to convince more users to upgrade.

As far as the release date is concerned, Microsoft said that the Start menu is going to be offered to users in a future Windows 8.1 update, but no other specifics have been provided. Expect this to happen sometime in the next few months, most likely by the launch of Windows 9, scheduled to take place in early 2015.
