The Game Developer Conference has witnessed a number of announcements linked to the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but the biggest long-term consequences for the series will be linked to the performance of the new Fox Engine.

In the clip from Konami, shown during the Game Developers Conference 2013, the company discussed the capabilities of the technology and how it would create some of the most realistic environments and characters seen in the gaming industry.

The Fox Engine will be used for Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain and for Ground Zeroes.

The two games will be linked by story, but they will use different gameplay mechanics.

Franchise creator Hideo Kojima has suggested that the two titles will be delivered as one package, but Konami has refused to confirm or deny the information.

The Fox Engine will also be used for Pro Evolution Soccer 2014.
