Microsoft yesterday launched the second-generation Surface tablet in front of a limited number of journalists, with the company even abandoning the idea of live streaming the event to the web.

Even though letting users around the world watch the live unveiling of the new Surface would have contributed to greater exposure and free publicity for the device, Microsoft stuck to its initial plans and refused to stream the launch party to the Internet.

The company has, however, decided to roll out an on-demand clip soon after the presentation ended, so you can now watch Panos Panay’s keynote via Microsoft’s official website.

Keep in mind that Microsoft unveiled both the new Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 tablets during the event, but the devices won’t be shipped to customers sooner than October 22.
