Football fans who were watching a match in Bolivia on Thursday were terrified by a strange ghostly figure that suddenly appeared on television broadcast and seemed to be running through the crowd.

The unexplained apparition even seems to glide straight through a barrier and then fade away into the multitude of fans.

As you can see in the footage, the eerie figure sprints through the stands at the Hernando Siles Stadium in La Paz, spooking spectators, commentators and viewers, while the soccer match is being played on the pitch.

The video has gone viral and has sparked a lot of speculation about the spooky apparition. Of course, many have said that it's fake or is just an optical illusion, explaining that the alleged “ghost” is actually the reflection of a player or spectator.

One possible explanation is that it is a case of double exposure, a simple trick which can be used to create all sorts of effects, including ghosts. It's possible that the camera was behind glass, so anything behind it would reflect back into the camera lens and cause a ghostly image if a light source was present in the background.

Almost everyone agrees that the image is a real person's shadow, and subsequently a fake ghost.

But, just in case it's true, are ghosts invading soccer games now? What do you think? Is it real or an optical illusion?
