Windows 8.1 comes right out of the box with native 3D printing support and Microsoft has recently released a new app called 3D Builder to let users make the most of this major OS improvement.

Since 3D printing is quickly gaining traction in the industry, Microsoft has now rolled out a video to show that this particular feature works in Windows 8.1, highlighting at the same time the key features of its dedicated app.

“With this app you can import, view, manipulate, and print 3D models on your Windows 8.1 PC. This app works great on Tablets thanks to the touch-friendly interface, and also works well on laptops and desktop PCs with using your keyboard and mouse,” Microsoft explained.

The application is obviously offered free of charge to all Windows 8.1 users and comes with a rich feature package that includes options to import .3mf, .obj, and .stl files. It can basically work with any 3D printer that comes with a driver package compatible with Windows 8.1.
