Ian McKellen’s job is in serious danger now that Willie Nelson is interested in the part

Willie Nelson turns 79 today, April 30 but, by the looks of things, he’s just getting started. The singer, songwriter, actor, poet, activist, and lover of weed, wants to be on “The Hobbit” and he knows perfectly well which part would suit him.

So he’s making a run for it.

The video above is his audition for the role of Gandalf, which is now played by Ian McKellen. The “audition” aired on Conan O’Brien.

Nelson sure makes a pretty compelling argument, even though he says at one point that “that giant eye is freaking me the [expletive] out.”

“You can hire me and fire that Ian McKellen guy. He’s a good actor, but hell, I’m Willie Nelson. Oh yeah — and now that I think about it, I’d make a great Magneto,” Nelson concludes by saying.

Hilarious.
