Countless water birds die on a regular basis in the UK after ingesting lead

According to a new study published by the WWT (the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust), one in ten wild birds found dead in the UK had passed away as a result of its ingesting lead.

Apparently, these birds end up being poisoned and eventually die because, in spite of restriction, several British citizens still use lead shot when going hunting.

Because these wild birds eat the spent lead shot they come by in their natural ecosystems, they eventually witness their bodily functions shutting down.

“It is as clear today as it was then that in the UK lead poisoning from shooting kills a large number of our wild birds each year and makes many more very sick.”

“Despite the law, brought in over a decade ago to protect wetland birds, nothing has changed. Clearly an effective solution is long overdue,” explains Martin Spray, presently employed as chief executive of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.
