Video explains what happens inside our bodies whenever we decide to eat a whole lot more than we should

As most of you probably know by now, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. True, this holiday is supposed to be about giving thanks for the things we are grateful for but, if we're gonna be honest here, it must be said that it's the food that's on everybody's mind.

The problem is that, as much as we wanted to, there is no way that we could ever eat an entire turkey all by ourselves, let alone if we decide to pour some gravy all over it. Fear not, this is nothing to be embarrassed about.

As detailed in the video below, which made it online just in time for this year's Thanksgiving, our stomach can only stretch to a volume of about 1 liter. Simply put, it can only receive a limited amount of food at any given time.

When full and expanded, the stomach presses against all the other organs in the abdominal cavity. Add to this the air that we also ingest when gulping down food and it's no wonder that, when he eat more than we should, we feel like we could explode.

Studies have shown that, when busy digesting, the human stomach produces a compound known to the scientific community as hydrochloric acid. When produced in excess, this compound works its way into the esophagus and causes a burning feeling.

On the bright side, there is one very simple way to make sure you won't get sick this Thanksgiving: just put down the fork when you feel like you've had enough and don't force your stomach to process more food than it can handle.
