The designer says she can afford to take a long shower because she is a vegetarian

Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is good friends with PETA. So much that she has recently agreed to let herself be filmed while taking a shower, just to prove how green she is.

The resulting video is available above, and it is intended to – what else, since it's a PETA creation – convince people to embrace a vegan diet.

While showering, Vivienne Westwood gives a speech about how no longer eating meat and dairy is the best thing that folks who wish to protect the planet can do with their lives.

At one point, the fashion designer goes as far as to say that, because she does not eat meat, she can afford to take a long shower and keep a clean conscience at the same time.

My question is this: if it's OK to take a long shower because you already have a small ecological footprint due to the fact that you don't eat meat, shouldn't it also be OK to eat meat as long as you cut your showers short?

Then again, I seriously doubt that being environmentally friendly is about trading one nasty behavior with another.

On the contrary, if protecting the environment is really what PETA is concerned about, then perhaps the organization might want to ask people not to eat meat AND not to take long showers.
