Unfortunately, the explanation is not that humans are turning into superheroes

Just in case there are people in this world who cannot sleep at night because they are too busy trying to figure out why it is that Olympic records are sooner or later broken, here's a video documenting the chief reasons why this happens.

Unfortunately, and much to some folks' disappointment, Olympic records do not get broken because people are evolving and turning into superheroes who can move at impressive speeds and/or are disconcertingly strong.

On the contrary, many of the new world records set over the past few years are due to advances made in science and technology.

Changes in the outfits that Olympians wear have also helped establish new performance standards for certain sports, and the simple fact that there are now some 7 billion people in the world ups the chances that a record will eventually be broken.
