There has been a lot of talk lately about the efficiency of antiviruses as endpoint protection. A recent Dark Reading article once again puts antiviruses under the microscope, comparing them to Google’s new reputation system.

In response to the article, Raimund Genes, CTO of Trend Micro, has published a short video to shed some light on the question “Is it time to dump endpoint AntiMalware?”

The CTO explains that most security solutions providers are well aware of the fact that signature-based technology is not enough to keep malware at bay.

Trend Micro and other companies continue to heavily invest in reputation services, whitelisting and other technologies that, in combination with standard detection systems, are capable of identifying most pieces of malware.

“Do we do a perfect job? No, there is no silver bullet. Our job is to protect our users as best as possible and that’s what we continue to do,” Genes notes.
