Tom Hanks and the late Michael Clarke Duncan worked together on the critically acclaimed “Green Mile,” the same movie that put the latter on the map of “serious” actors. They remained friends until his death.

At a private ceremony that took place at Forest Lawn in Hollywood, Hanks told a very funny anecdote about the man who came to be known to friends as “the gentle giant.”

You can see it above in full.

We won’t spoil it for you so suffice to say that it’s about Michael (Mike) joining and then un-joining a gang in his native Chicago when he was still a teen.

It was a very touching way to send off a friend, with a smile on the lips.
